A long-time writer in the Boston area, she directed the well-known Chautauqua Writers’ Center from 2008 to 2017. Her first novel, Secrets in a House Divided, is forthcoming from Mercer University Press in the fall of 2018. Set in Richmond, Virginia in 1864-65, it explores the relationships between masters and slaves, husbands and wives, parents and children, as the Civil War drives them to a flash point.
